Looking for an old fashioned meatloaf recipe? I am focused on Family Recipes only!?

I am trying to re-create my grandmothers meatloaf. I know it had onions, corn flakes (crushed), egg, ground beef, I think ketchup on top, chile sauce?, green pepper, milk?, worcestershire sauce? I really can't remember. I am searching for family recipes that YOU have been using for years. I have researched many recipes but have never found the exact one.

Thank you so much!Looking for an old fashioned meatloaf recipe? I am focused on Family Recipes only!?
Yep you got it same one my granny made!! 1 lb. ground beef, 1/2 pound ground pork, 1 egg, 1/4 cup of crushed cornflakes, 1/4 cup of ketchup, and a dash of worcestershire sauce. Mix egg with a splash of milk and beat. Add egg, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, cornflakes to meat and mix thoroughly. Put in loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 min. or until done. My granny used to put bacon strips ontop to keep meat moist and then add ketchup to the top about 10 min. before it is done to add a bit of extra flavor. Bon appetite!Looking for an old fashioned meatloaf recipe? I am focused on Family Recipes only!?

put what you want inside yours. then mold it into your loaf pan and bake at 350 for 1hr. i always use bread crumbs or crackers (instead of corn flakes) that i first soak in milk and then mix with meat (i now use ground turkey),ketchup, worcestshire, onions, garlic powder, parsley, eggs and bell peppers. right before putting in the oven i spread ketchup over the top. it carmelizes and makes the meat loaf look awesome!

After the meatloaf has cooked for 1 hr. I then take 1 cup of brown sugar and 4 tsp of ketchup mix them up until blended and then place on top of the meatloaf. Place back in oven for 10 minutes.

The topping is amazing and my kids love it.
Here's one from my family. Mom calls it Sicilian Meat Roll.

2lbs ground beef.

1 egg

1 cup Progresso Italian seasoned bread crumbs.

1 can tomato soup

thin sliced ham

shredded mozzarella cheese

parsley

Mix the meat, egg, bread crumbs and half the tomato soup. On a sheet of waxed paper, flatten it out like a rectangle pizza crust. Place a layer of ham on, then the shredded cheese. Roll it up and pinch the ends tight. Put in a pan, top with remaining tomato soup and the parsley.

Bake like a regular meat loaf.

Best served with garlic toast.
Are you positive that she used corn flakes? I have a recipe that uses Worcestershire, but it calls for Wheat Chex cereal.

1/2 c. ketchup

2 Tbs.brown sugar

1/2 tsp.powdered mustard

4 tsps. Worcestershire sauce

2 tsps.seasoned salt

1 1/2 tsps.onion powder

1/4 tsp.garlic powder

1/4 tsp.ground black pepper

1 egg

2 Tbs. finely chopped green pepper

1 1/2 c.Wheat Chex cereal

1 1/2 lbs.ground beef

In a large bowl combine ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Reserve 4 Tbs. mixture for topping. To remaining mixture add Worcestershire sauce, salt, onion, garlic powder, pepper, and egg. Blend well. Stir in green pepper and Wheat Chex. Let stand 5 minutes. Add ground beef. Mix well, breaking up Chex. Shape into loaf in shallow baking pan. Bake at 350 for 65 minutes. Spread top with reserved ketchup mixture. Bake additional 15 minutes. Aprox.6 servings.

Oh, wait, I just realized that there are no real onions in that. This is probably not too helpful now. You sound like a really good cook though. Do you think you can add real onions, or would you have to add extra dry cereal? My family usually substitutes Lipton dry mushroom onion soup mix for some of the dry ingredients if we are missing some.

Have you tried looking in any old Three Rivers Cookbooks?
This is a recipe that has been in my family for over 30 years.

Moms Famous Meatloaf

Sauce:

2 small cans tomato sauce

1/4 cup worchestershire sauce

1/2 onion chopped

1 tablespoon dried parsley

1/2 cup brown sugar

Mix all sauce ingredients together in bowl, set aside.

Ingredients (Meatloaf):

2 pounds ground beef

1/2 chopped onion

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup or more if needed, quick oatmeal (not instant)

1 teaspoon garlic salt

In another bowl add ground beef, 1/2 chopped onion, egg, oatmeal, garlic salt, pepper, and 1/3 of the sauce mixture. Mix together well.

Place in pan, making space between meat and pan around edges with fingers. Flatten top, spread more sauce over top and cook 1 hour, at 350F. Drain off grease half way (30 min) and add more sauce. Reserve some sauce for adding when served. The oatmeal disappears, is healthy and you can't taste it. It just holds it together better. Add more if you need it.
